Camping

A few weeks ago we went camping up north near Idaho City. Here I am helping Papa set up the tent.

Here I am finishing my dinner as fast as possible and lusting after Papa's marshmallow.

Duckie attack!

Silver City

This old mining town sits at 7,000 ft in the Owyhee mountains, surrounded by nothing but BLM land. In its heydey it had 2500 people, 400 buildings, and 250 working mines in the surrounding area. Now it's down to 12 summer residents (only 1 in winter resident), 30 or so buildings, and no mines.

Here I am enjoying the view from the bar/restaurant/hotel, one of only two businesses in town

Here's the old drugstore

Here's an old mine shaft (right behind the church!)

This car used to provide the engine power to move ore up a mine shaft

Uncle Ben!

My "Untle Ben" came to visit, and we had so much fun together. We had a band, and he very patiently played along to my Max and Moritz tape and the keyboard demo song with me. We did a little bit of real jamming too.

He read me lots of books and helped me build with Legos. As you can imagine he is very high on my list of favorite people.

Experimental Backyard Winemaking

We have a grape vine in the backyard, and Papa has a wine-pressing gene (can't see grapes without pressing them), so we got an old wine press and gave it a try.

Mama thinks I've got the wine-pressing gene too -- I got right in there and smashed grapes like an old pro. Although the results were only so-so, the process was a lot of fun.

Visitors from Vermont

Steph and Ross came to visit us!
They read me books, and Ross played Legos with me a lot, so they are pretty high on my list of favorite people too.
